Bud Rodecker joined Thirst as an intern in June 2007. His penchant and ability for good design, in tandem with his unflappability under pressure, were qualities that prompted Rick Valicenti to invite Bud to stay on as a junior designer. Now entering his third year as part of the Thirst collaborative, Rodecker under Valicenti’s mentorship continues to grow in design knowledge, practice, and innovation.
Rodecker’s clients at Thirst include Archeworks, Merchandise Mart Properties, and Lyric Opera of Chicago, among others. His multidisciplinary work involves print, video, web, photography, and branding design.
While in Chicago, Rodecker has presented in several design discussions – by sharing his work at an AIGA Small Talk at Thirst, speaking on “What I Didn’t Learn in College” for Harrington College’s design program, and as a panel participant for Independent Lens Community’s screening of Helvetica. Rodecker was also invited to devour design through practice and discussion at the 2008 Design Inquiry (a week-long design conference) focusing on the topic of “Fail Again.”
Bud is a graduate of University of Minnesota Duluth where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with a minor in photography. During his tenure there, he served as president of the Student Design Organization from 2005 to 2007.
