3st Chicago... Then Who Knows
12 June 2007
Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to send out an email update y'all on what has been happening in the life of Bud. I am now all settled down here in Chicago (er. streamwood) for the summer. For those of you who don't know, I was lucky enough to land an internship at 3st (That's pronounced "Thirst") with Rick Valicenti for the summer. You can check out their website at http://www.3st.com. 3st is a pretty cool company, it consists of 3 designers (John,Robb, & Gina), Rick Valicenti, Barb, and ME the intern! They are based out of a little house in the town of Barrington, a suburb of Chicago. It's a small company but they do some big work.

I moved down on wednesday the 30th and got settled into my house in Streamwood. I am renting a room out of a couples house that I found on Craig's List. They are also renting a different room out to an MBA from Yale. Her name is Lisa and she is interning at Sears Holdings. She is very nice, extremely intelligent, and likes to cook! Bonus! HAHA.
I spent my first weekend in Chicago exploring the area and meeting people. I ended up meeting a bunch of people who wakeboard. I just happened to stumble into this big group of people with similar interests! I was pretty STOKED as they say. I ended up going out wakeboarding with a few of my new friends and got to spend the whole day on the water. I can't say how excited I was to get in with this group of people. I was nervous that I would end up working all day then going home and spend the other half of my summer sitting at home watching TV. Crisis averted. Phew! Since then I have been out a few times already with them after work. Other than wakeboarding, I have been taking a lot of bike rides around my area. We have some really nice biking trails down here. I have been told there is one down by the river, but I haven't made it down there yet.
I started work here at 3st on Monday the 4th and was thrown right into the pot o' boiling water. After some time being shown some of the basic bookkeeping tasks and given a tour of the office again, I was given a brochure for the Lyric Opera to work on. Once the brochure is done, I am to create accompanying pieces including a CD face and tray card as well as a thank you card in a similar style. Along with the brochure I have worked on some other smaller projects, doing some minor changes to documents. I'll take some pictures to send out soon. Recently I have been putting together some of the pages in the CCS (College for Creative Studies) view book. That is a very cool project, it is all designed and gridded up so my task is to piece it all together and make it fit in the grid. YAY for puzzles. I will take some pictures soon of my place out here. Until then good night!
Talk to y'all soon,
Budr
