Today is only day, the old days make way for the new.

New Thirst Office!

23 October 2007

We moved the whole of Thirst to the new office space today. We had movers come and WOW these guys were amazing. They were throwing huge boxes on their backs and had cleared out the basement in like 45 minutes. Incredible.

The new space is awesome! It's going to be so cool. Like a real, hip, design firm in Chicago. Here are a couple pics, I'll take more when it's all set up.

The space before we fill it with all our crap. The tape on the floor in the shape of a pinwheel is where are desks are going.

The five people that live in Chicago

This really is a small world we live in. no joke.

My new neighbors (Dan and Wade) were playing a show this past friday at a place called Reggies on south State street. I mentioned that I wanted to go with them so they offered to give me a ride. When I got to their place after work we had to wait around for their third band member. So we are sitting for awhile and watching TV on their old projections screen, when the third band member arrives he introduces himself as Tim and sits down. At this point Wade comments "Tim here works in Barrington too."
"Oh yeah, Where do you work", Tim inquires.
"Well I work at a design firm called Thirst... do you know where Station stree..."
"Hold on a sec! You're Bud!?"
"... Yeah..." I say cautiously
"I work at GAS (Thirst's main printer in Barrington), I work with Ryan Whitmore. I'm working on Volume Two right now."
How strange is this, I am now sitting in my apartment building talking to someone I didn't know before just now that I have been indirectly working with for months. He made a comment that he probably shouldn't bitch about work too much, and we talked a bit about the work we have done and then made our way to the show.

wtf.

My RSS feed list

20 October 2007

A friend recently commented that I read too many blogs, or that I'm a great googler or something. So in response I have compiled a list of the RSS feeds in my Google Reader. I have alot... I can't keep up with them all nor do I. I kind of pick and choose. The only ones I read all of are blogs from my friends. One of my favorites is FFFFound check it out!

I also recently discovered that google reader provides you with a public page where you can "share" interesting posts with others. Mine is here. I'm going to start sharing posts I like.

Hal, the man in my door.

15 October 2007

My bathroom door really does have a man in it. He stands locked in an eternal scream haunting me while I use the bathroom with the door open (what? I can do that now, I have my own place.). His plastic bag head is punctuated by two dark eyes and a gaping mouth open in a scream, as if he is in abject horror of you sitting there on his toilet. His head sits atop a nice pair on man boobs and a well developed beer gut. All this is supported by two withered little legs upon which he is apparently wearing stockings.

He haunts me...

CRACK CRACK SPURT SPUTTER SPARK!

14 October 2007

My free Microwave turned on me today and started shorting and smoking when i plugged in and tried to use it today. It said...

"NO I will NOT heat up your Baked Mastichioli that you have as leftovers from last nights lonely dinner by yourself across the street at the pizzaria! You have awaken me from my 4 year slumber... and for this! This Mastachili is not worthy! CRACK CRACK SPURT SPUTTER SPARK!"

Then My fire alarm decided to chime in...

"SMOOOKE SMOOOKE SMOOOKE!"

Dammit...

My door has a man in it (updated)

It has been a crazy few weeks, but after a crazy summer of suburban living. I am now a chicago resident.

Move in weekend was insane. I flew home on a friday morning, then immediately proceeded to spend the rest of the day organizing over 10 years of accumulations. It was now time to decide what stuff was worthy of taking with me in the future. I have too much stuff. This process continued through saturday. Sort, trash, store, pack. Somewhat stupidly I stayed up most of the night on saturday. Which made 8 am sunday morning seem to come quickly. We finished loading the truck and set off on our 6 hour drive across wisconsin. We finally arrived at my new apartment around 6:30 at night... Right about when it was starting to get dark. We then had to start the process of moving all my stuff up to the third floor. My poor Mom's first experience of my new place and neighborhood was the alley way where our building had recently become the canvas for some graffiti artist, and there also happened to be a posting about rat poison. She was waiting by the truck as my dad and I made trips up and down the stairs. By about the third trip she had decided that I was not to stay here and that she wanted me out! We convinced her to go upstairs and after that she settled down. The stairs were winding, the air was humid, and my dad and I were drenched in sweat. We finished up around 9:30 and took a walk down to Lazo's Tacos (A local 24 hr mexican place... to which I have now been 3 times since moving in a week ago). I'm a week into my experience here in Chicago and it has been great... Not considering the commute to Barrington though. This first weekend downtown was fabulous, but more on that later.

Right now I am in the middle of my first experience at the laundromat. There is a husband and wife who literally have a whole wall of dryers full of clothes for their multiple children. I think spanish would be very helpful to know.

Op! laundry's done, time to go. (And I'm tired of writing).
