I found this note outside my apartment. Apparently I'm not the only designer living in my area!
I love how this is a little insight into the mind of some anonymous person.

I made my way on over to the museum of science and industry today. I have more visitors in from out of town this weekend and the museum happens to be free until the end of the month! heyo! Anywho... we saw U-505 the first captured german U-boat. It was quite an interesting display. One thing that blew my mind was the photo of the original team that captured the boat... They have a story about how in the original photo there happens to be someone who was not on the team that captured the boat, and the navy removed him from the photo centered the people and made it as if he was never there. THEN they released the photo to the public. I thought this was a pretty interesting side note and maybe some insight into some of the many ways that history can be changed.
Oh and the photo above was from their circus display. I think it was on the nature of what makes a face. It was just too fantastic not to capture.

This past thursday Thirst (Rick, John, and I) flew on down to Connecticut to do some filming for a prototype we are making for a client of ours. Each one of us had our own tasks in this little guerilla filming adventure, Rick played the art director/interviewer, John played camera/audio man, and I played the part of documentary photographer. None of us had really done a project like this before. I had done some filming in school but never with this camera or in a situation like this.
We got in real late Thursday night and didn't get to our hotel until around midnight. I ended up getting a two bedroom all to myself. As the proprietor of the hotel was showing me to my room he off handedly commented that Marilyn Monroe once slept in the right hand bed. I passed out around 1:30.
The next day was a marathon. We walked in filming and didn't stop until we had to take off so we could make our flight back to chicago.
Each of us did our job well and the trip with off without too many hitches. Hopefully the prototype goes over well and we'll get to do some more of these!

My friends Topher and Matt are in town this week. I have been trying to show them around my neighborhood a bit and give them a taste of my experience in Chicago. So far it's been pretty good.
Last Night in particular was an interesting one. Just after 9pm we headed down to a local music venue I frequent — The Empty bottle. There was a free show going on but it ended up being kind of a drag so Chad (Topher's Friend) brought us down the street to a random polish bar. When we tried to knock on the door it was locked... A woman poked her head up and stared out the window at us. After a brief moment of indecision she decided we weren't dangerous and proceeded to unlock the 4 dead-bolts to let us in the bar. Speaking with a thick eastern European accent she promised us that the Polish beer we were ordering was, "Veddy good Beer, this is veddy good beer." (be sure to roll that r). Chad queued up quite a "Gay" mix of bad dance tunes on the jukebox while Topher and I bowled on an amazing table-top bowling game. We were the sole proprietors of this establishment on this particular Monday night, It was kind of a surreal experience.
Topher and I shared a pretty good conversation about design, and after everyone had knocked back a few we split off from Chad and headed back to my car. On the way back home I took Matt and Topher to one of the Gem's of my neighborhood, Lazo's Tacos. Topher being sufficiently drunk by now and Matt well on his way they were in the perfect state to experience 24-hour mexican dining at it's finest. I ordered my food in my best broken spanish and got a little bit of a chuckle from our waitress. Topher was quite a sight with his huge burrito. It quickly started to fall apart in his hands and he just kept digging in, the man could not be stopped. Burrito was everywhere, but somehow ALL of it ended up in his gullet! Matt has some pictures, hopefully I'll get them soon and post them. At this point Topher decided he needed to move to Chicago. He was planning on it, but Lazo's sealed the deal. Matt just kept calling friends to rave about how good the food at Lazo's was. Their amazement only increased when we got the check for a total of $18.00 (that's food for 3 people plus 1 margarita!).
The Adventure didn't stop at Lazo's though while making the final walk from the car to my apartment Topher slipped in some mud and got stuck underneath a fence. After a bit of a struggle we freed topher from his self imposed man trap and got him up to the apartment safe and sound.
